I used a lot of December to get ready for the last half of the CC year. One smart move I made was having my kids help do the "sample"paintings for our Great Artists unit! Here they are using textured paint to replicate Morisot paintings...
My Monet water lillies...
Micah's class taking their geography assessment. (And Micah and Jax pretending to cheat.) :)
We went to Winthrop's Christmas tree lighting and then the parade with our Chinese friends!
Caleb reading the Bible passage at house church...
Grandpa and Grandma spent the night with us on their way to Florida. Caleb and Grandpa tried switching glasses.
Our Christmas party at CC had a pretty sweet Hot Cocoa bar!
Me dressed as the conductor for the Polar Express review game:
Kids wore their jammies if they wanted to "ride the Polar Express" for the review game:
Micah's "mid-year assessment" on geography. He drew all this from memory! (And as far as I checked, he got every country and capital correct... although maybe not spelled right.) :)
We went ice skating with the Ziebers at the little Rock Hill ice skating rink...
My sunroom the day after the CC Christmas party... I feel like we need a bigger house, not because we are adopting two more children, but because of all the stuff I have to store for CC!
Even on our first day of break, Micah chose to do some math. :)
Decorating Christmas cookies with the Chinese students:
I know one of these means "Love" - I don't remember what the other one means:
I drove them around to look at Christmas lights. They all loved this house so much, they got out to take pictures with it.
Carroll Financial had their annual Christmas party. We cleaned up nice!!
Since Carroll Financial acquired a firm in Rock Hill this year, Mike Jette rented a limo for us all to ride to Charlotte in!! (Ben and I were the first ones there.) :)
We met our friends, the Collazos, at a skate park. Then we walked around downtown Waxhaw a little bit:
Micah started his science fair experiment. He wanted to test which of the self-proclaimed "natural" cleaners kills the most bacteria. He loved wiping the raw chicken all over the cutting board. :)
We went to the zoo to see Christmas lights with Wes and Joyce. We didn't realize when we got there that they were going to close the buildings and put away the animals about 40 minutes after we arrived. So we rushed to see all the animals we wanted to and then walked around more slowly to look at all the lights.
This snake kept it's eye on Abby!
And she kept her eye on it!
There was even a spot where they sent down fake "snow" on the kids. :)
On Christmas Eve, we were the "supervisors" for some of our friends when they had a visit with their Dad, and since he chose to take them rice skating, we got to go too! It was a really nice rink in Charlotte.
Since we were there for quite a while, we brought some games for a break.
Christmas Eve evening we had an open house for any church friends that wanted to stop by. Abby had pretty hair. :)
What our living room looked like when we went to bed on Christmas Eve:
Opening stockings on Christmas morning before breakfast (and soft fuzzy blankets they all got)...
Micah got a little electronic device that had all the old games on it that Ben used to play as a kid. I'm not sure WHO the present was REALLY for. :)
Abby working on her Christmas Legos...
Christmas afternoon at Grandma and Grandpa Kaufmans with the Ziebers:
Ben made fun of my special motion sickness glasses I got for Christmas. :)
She went straight to work the day after Christmas too!
On my birthday, Wes and Joyce kept the kids while Ben took me to the Cheesecake Factory for dinner. They were playing Micah's new game The Sheriff of Nottingham when we came to pick the kids up.
My birthday cards:
The BIG game... Clemson vs. Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl! The Ziebers and Gansons cheered on OSU while the Moodys cheered for Clemson:
I just love the progression of these photos:
We were SO CLOSE! And then BLEW it at the last second. Clemson won 29-23. I so wish I would have started this video about 5 seconds sooner to capture the tension. :)
Church the next morning at Cherry Park. We were missing some folks, but we fit just right in this little room:
I used some Christmas money to finally buy new dressers for the boys and Abby! Ikea for the win!
New Year's Eve Party at our house. Lots of games, lots of eating, some worship, and a countdown to midnight!
Dutch Blitz. I have lost my touch! These were the rankings...
And I was in fourth place with not a SINGLE blitz! I'm getting old and those teenagers were fast!
Aaaand... Hunter and Kelsey got engaged!!
