Abby has discovered how to take photos with my phone. :)
Caleb too. Check out that bod. :)
Abby not too thrilled with Caleb taking her picture. Abby calls the little bump between her eyebrows her "bird" because with her pointy eyebrows it looks like a bird flapping its wings. :)
Having fun at the YMCA pools...
CC's parent practicum was in early June. 3 days of training for me, 3 days of camp for the kids. Here is Micah and his friend Jax. (No, they didn't plan this.)
At practicum, Carrie, Beth, and Lily taught Caleb's camp that incorporated geography and drawing. He was pretty happy with that. :)
Micah was in Logic Camp.
The most common place for Micah this summer: anywhere with a book. Going through the Harry Potter series.
Caleb always has some full-proof business plan in mind these days. One day he decided to use our firewood in the back to build doghouses to sell. He was going to build "people houses" but thought he should downgrade a little since he didn't know how to do air conditioning. :) He recruited Abby to help him hold the boards while he attempted to hammer. This is as far as the doghouses ever got.
The Gansons head to NYC!! We decided to add a trip to NYC on to our normal Maryland summer trip. (We skipped out on the Vineyard conference in CA this year, so we had a little more vacation time to use.) We drove to Jon and Angie's house in Elizabethtown, PA, and spent the night. The next morning we drove the 2 1/2 hours to our hotel in NJ right across from the city. It wasn't looking promising as we got closer and closer...
Once we got to our hotel, we took a bus right to Times Square. Caleb was not thrilled that he had to sit beside Abby.
Visiting the Lego store. This was supposed to be a picture of Micah with the dragon. But it's more like a picture of Micah with a very large hairy man. :)
At Rockefeller Center. Caleb wasn't feeling so happy after all the walking we did.
Outside of Radio City Hall. More walking!
We very briefly went into Central Park. This was the main thing Micah wanted to see. But just after walking in, we decided to go back out and find food since we were all hungry and tired of walking.
So we stopped walking and started riding the subway... which was long and confusing!
A little how we all felt after all the subway riding that weekend....
The first evening we went to see the World Trade Center Memorial. It was made to look like the wings of a dove. The new World Trade Center 1 is the tall building behind it.
Inside the memorial...
We visited the two square craters where the base of the two WTC buildings used to stand. They were prety identical. Water ran down into the hole in the middle, and all around the middle were the names of the people who died in the attack. A few names had white roses on them... those were for the people who would have had birthdays that day.
On the second day, we splurged and went to the top of the Empire State Building.
The tall building is the WTC 1 (now the tallest building in NYC, just a little taller than the Empire State Building.) On the island on the right you can make out the Statue of Liberty.
In the lobby of the Empire State Building...
Authentic NY pizza. :)
After the Empire State we did some more subway riding and walking to try to find a ferry. Here is a statue called "The Immigrants" near the overlook to the Statue of Liberty.
We happened across the Staten Island Ferry (which was FREE!) and gave us an amazing view of the city...
The ferry took us past Lady Liberty. (We decided not to take a ferry to Statue itself because 1) it was super expensive and 2) Abby wasn't tall enough to be allowed to walk the steps to the top anyway.)
Getting tired of having their pictures taken... :)
In the financial district....
When your husband is a financial planner, you walk the extra block to get his picture with the bull. :)
And of course the boys wanted a picture with the other end. :)
We drove back to Angie's to spend the night there again before heading off to Maryland the next day. It was so good to see her after something like 7 years!
June might be the best time of year to visit Maryland. It's so beautiful! Cows and kitties!
As usual, Micah was in the barn or with the farmers 24/7.
Last picture of the house with the big pine trees. They were scheduled to be cut down soon after this. (One was dying; one had roots messing with the house.)
I broke my old phone in May and got a new phone... I'm so happy with the clarity of the pictures it takes!
Grandpa gave Caleb his Select Sires hat...
Watching Kaitlyn's and Megan's soccer games...
I went in search of Caleb one day and found him under the truck keeping Uncle Kenton company.
These kids had a very elaborate play put together for anyone who was willing to watch. :)
Mom and Dad are renting out the trailer that used to be used for the migrant workers Kenton housed. So when you're 77 and a landlord, you still lay on the floor to fix the dryer. :)
Dirty farmer:
Abby played this game with pretty much anybody:
One evening they broke out the old projector and slides. How many brothers does it take to figure out how to get the projector to work? :)
While we were in Maryland, Karl and Lindsey Bucher had their little man, Issac Judah! As soon as we got back, I went to meet him. He's perfect!
Playing ballerinas with Zuri.
They even managed to recruit Caleb. :)
Isaac soaking up some vitamin D.
